Compression Spiral CNC Solid Carbide Router Bit #46180 to cut the perimeter of the United States in laminated melamine, he then plunges 1/4″ deep with the Mini Insert CNC Spoilboard Router Bit #RC-2250 to remove the remaining melamine so that the puzzle can be assembled into place.

When cutting plywood, melamine, veneer or many other flat materials, it’s often difficult to avoid splintering and blowout from the saw teeth breaking through the edge of the workpiece.

This trick prevents splintering and blowout to result in a cleaner edge.

First, wrap masking tape around the workpiece where the cut is to be made.

Then mark the cut line with a pencil along the masking tape.

Finally, make the cut along the line.

Hint: Use a straight piece of timber as a guide to get perfectly straight cuts.
